CALL FOR PAPERS

2026 Asian Law and Society Association (ALSA) Annual Meeting

Nestled in the heart of Taiwan’s semiconductor capital, the School of Law at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU Law) is honored to host the 2026 Asian Law and Society Association Annual Meeting. Our institution embodies a spirit of legal agility, constantly evolving alongside the rapid shifts in technology and society. We warmly welcome the international community to Hsinchu on December 5–6, 2026, for a collective exploration of our changing legal landscape. Early-career researchers are also encouraged to join the Junior Scholars Workshop on December 4 at the NYCU Guangfu Campus.

Conference Theme

Law and Resilience: Sustainability, Equity, and Technology Governance

The theme for 2026, Law and Resilience, offers an intellectual invitation to consider how legal institutions may adapt, endure, and cultivate collective strength amid global uncertainty. Rather than a static corpus of rules, law is envisioned as a living and responsive force capable of navigating the intricate intersections of technological innovation, social justice, and environmental stewardship. We warmly welcome scholarly treatises that illuminate these interconnected dimensions.

As the architecture of digital transformation rapidly evolves, we seek thoughtful analyses that advance forward-looking legal frameworks capable of harmonizing technological innovation—such as artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision-making—with ethical responsibility. By doing so, the law can preserve human dignity and guard against emergent forms of digital domination. Crucially, this governance of technology must be inextricably linked to the pursuit of equality and social justice. We invite rigorous scholarship examining how law and technology can function together as instruments of inclusion, rather than mechanisms that entrench structural inequality. Contributions in this vein may explore the empowerment of marginalized communities, the protection of indigenous rights, gender equality, and labor justice.

Ultimately, this vision of resilience must extend to our planetary future. We encourage critical reflections on the role of law in advancing climate justice, fostering resilient urban governance, and securing intergenerational well-being. By anchoring environmental responsibility within dynamic jurisprudence, these inquiries will collectively explore how the law can guide societies toward truly sustainable, equitable, and resilient futures.

Beyond this central theme, the 2026 Annual Meeting remains open to high-quality proposals addressing any significant question concerning the dynamic relationship between law and society within the Asian context.
